Description |
Queen Shenandoah IV (Isabella Tyson Gilpin) and retinue on Handley High School steps. Uniformed men are a detachment of the Monticello Guards (no persons specifically identified). The key in the Queen's escort's right hand was carved by John W. Nail from wood salvaged from old Fort Loudoun. Note: a rare shot with the Queen wearing the actual crown. It had real diamonds and was such a security risk that most of the time (including during the parade) she wore an elaborately beaded satin headdress. See Trail of Pink Petals, pp. 19-21. |
