Description |
Watercolor(?) sketch for "The people of Winchester appealing to Washington" (for protection from the Indians). George Washington, mounted, with soldier, old men, women, children, tree and houses in background. This is a more elaborate version, including a little girl running in from the left, chickens, and other details not found in the engraving. It appears to be the basis for the Burtis Baker mural over the fireplace of what is now the Periodical Room in the Handley Library, presented in 1932. Slide also available in Slides collection; see Archives staff for assistance. |
